Child's First Visit in Corona, CA

A smiling child at his first dental visitOur children's dentists in Corona, CA, are dedicated to creating a fun and safe environment for your child. Our goal is for them to enjoy coming to see us and even look forward to it.

We are sensitive to children's needs and understand that they all have unique personalities and oral health profiles. Therefore, at all times, we will treat your little one as we would our own or as we would want our child treated if they were to see the dentist.

When Should My Child First See the Dentist?

In keeping with the recommendations of the American Pediatric Dental Association, we like to see kids for their first visit to our Corona dental office by age one or when baby teeth start to appear. This may seem young, but this visit is all about letting your child get used to a new environment and new faces. Our pedodontist Dr. Lan Nguyen has had specialized training to help guide children patiently through the experience.

We must ensure your child has a positive experience with us because this sets the stage for all dental visits to come. We monitor their oral health and dental development during these low-key visits. However, it simply feels like a fun visit with the dental team to your child.

Three Ways to Keep Your Kid's Teeth Healthy

Maintaining healthy teeth is essential for children as they grow, and it sets the foundation for a lifetime of good oral hygiene. As parents, you play a crucial role in helping your little ones develop healthy habits that keep their smiles bright and strong. Here are three effective ways to keep your children’s teeth healthy at home.

Encourage Brushing and Flossing

Make brushing fun by creating a routine that your child looks forward to! Encourage them to brush their teeth twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste. For younger children, use a timer or a favorite song to make sure they brush for two minutes. Don’t forget to teach them how to floss daily!

Promote a Healthy, Balanced Diet

A healthy diet plays a major role in dental health. Encourage your child to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products while limiting sugary snacks and beverages. When they do indulge in sweets, remind them to drink water afterward and brush their teeth to help prevent cavities.

Schedule Regular Dental Checkups

Regular visits to the dentist are essential for maintaining your child's oral health. Schedule checkups every six months to ensure any potential issues are caught early. During these visits, your child can receive professional dental cleanings and fluoride treatments that help keep their teeth strong and healthy.

How Can I Prepare My Child for Their First Dental Visit?

You can start preparing your child by talking about their dental visit at home. Being open and honest will help them understand why they are going to the dentist and may help reduce some anxiety. A good idea is to practice some of the things that your child may experience while at the office. For example, you can brush your teeth together and then practice counting one another's teeth. You may also practice asking your child to open their mouth to get their teeth checked and letting them "check" your teeth. Let them know that the dentist is a fun place to be!

The Words You Use with Your Child Matter

To help us make your child's visit the best it can be, you must be careful about the words you use and how you talk about the visit. Please support our efforts by avoiding negative words often associated with a dental visit. Instead, we try to use a positive and caring vocabulary in a fun and safe environment.

Your Child's Evolving Oral Health Needs

A smiling child brushing a giant tooth modelFinding a children's dentist near you is crucial to your little one's oral development and smile health. And these early visits are also for you. The dentist sets aside time to answer your questions and address any concerns that you might have.

We also provide guidance for at-home care. This includes caring for your child's teeth and gums or how to clean newly erupted teeth and when you should transition from a damp cloth on the gums to a toothbrush.

Our team can talk to you about nutrition and best practices for thumb-sucking, pacifier use, and more.

While you care for your child's developing smile at home, we'll provide twice-yearly checkups to ensure everything is developing according to plan, and we'll share any concerns with you along the way.

Eventually, as your child grows, their dental care needs will evolve. Before you know it, we'll provide their first teeth cleaning and orthodontic evaluation.

Your child should enjoy a healthy smile from the beginning between our diligence and your efforts. So, if you've been searching for a "kids' dentist near me," we hope you'll consider our pediatric dentists in Corona, CA. We provide excellent dental care in a warm and nurturing environment. And we are always happy to chat with you if you have questions.
