Infants often use thumb sucking or a pacifier as a method for self-soothing, and this is completely normal. However, when it becomes problematic is if the habit is prolonged and continues as they get older. Here's what you should know. 

When Thumb-Sucking Becomes Problematic

Your baby's first teeth will arrive during their first year. As they get older and their thumb-sucking habit continues, it can begin to push their baby teeth forward. This sometimes changes tooth alignment and could result in an open bite, or a pronounced overbite.
